The only complaint I had was why so soft on the outside? That is where they had to go with the football with no timeouts


Great thread and "prevent defense" is really an nfl thing. In the nfl they will play soft zone and let you complete passes in the field because the clock doesnt stop on first downs. In the college game nobody really plays a prevent defense except in Hail Mary plays.

Let's quibble about what to call what happened. Is it "prevent" is it "zone" is it "soft" defense? Bottom line, LSU stopped playing the type of defense they had been playing all 2nd half to play this thing we saw on Bama's last possession. If it wasn't "soft" and giving them short passes, I don't know what would be. If that's not "prevent" so be it. If it isn't "zone" so be it. Whatever you want to call it, LSU got soft and let Bama in.
