Gifting a pistol

My friend is getting married, and I want to buy him a pistol for a wedding gift. What do I need to do to put it in his name offically. Can I just have a written change of ownership with a witness signature in Louisiana ?

You were given the correct answer on the OT. But this would be the best place for that type of info.

I figured I would have better luck on the OT T this time of night

Yeah the OB dies quickly in the late hours unfortunately.

What is the answer to his question? I don't want to sift through all the retard posts on that board.

Place gun back in its original box/case. Stick in a bag. Attach a bow. Give to friend. Shake hand. Pat on back.
You don't need to do anything crazy like you are thinking. When you give it to him, it is his.

Just give it to him. Guns aren't in anyone's name in LA

Naw...just hand it to him as if it were a crescent wrench. There's no title or license like a truck.

You can just give it to him as a gift in LA. No paperwork needed.

Yea you sure can, but If they are a convicted felon you can get in some trouble.

What is it about guns that make people so paranoid?

as long as he is not a felon, just give it to him

Tigers,
You don't need to put it in his name. Guns are not registered in LA. The form you fill out when you purchase the gun is an instant criminal background check, meant to insure that YOU, the buyer, can legally purchase the gun from the dealer.
Yeah, you can, but it's not really necessary.
In LA, you can simply "gift" the gun to him, as long as you're not aware of it being illegal for him to own a gun.
If it's illegal for him to own a gun, the act of you buying it for the purpose of giving to him would be a "straw purchase." That does not seem to be the case in this instance. If interested, here's more info on the "straw purchse." Buy the gun, give it to him then go shoot it w/ him!
