It isnt bad. I can all the normal stuff but i just cant access the new features. It installed fine and everything.
Posted on 10/28/12 at 5:06 pm to finchmeister08
I wouldn't call it fine if you can't even access all of the new stuff.

let me know when major corporations start using Mac, k?

Hey don't pick on the Mac guy. He can't be too bad if he was willing to try windows 8 opening weekend.
Windows 8 is going to be FAR worse than Vista for IT guys at companies who demand the move to 8.

can you tell me how to unlink my live ID with my windows account? It created some bogus xbox account that i dont want. I want my legit account.
Posted on 10/28/12 at 8:35 pm to finchmeister08
No idea. I think I have different ids for all MS services which is a mess.
Posted on 10/28/12 at 8:46 pm to TigerMyth36
Tell me about it. When i created a new account in windows, it asked for a microsoft account. Used the one for my old xbox. I could browse the start menu, but i couldnt open explorer, documents, my computer, pictures, music, etc. it was like a different computer with nothing on it. I couldnt access anything.

As I said in the OP, I am a bit of a Microsoft fanboy and I can't think of a single reason to migrate to Windows 8. The learning curve will be huge for the average person and the amount of steps it takes to do simple things has increased not decreased.
I really think we are looking at worse than Vista levels of ineptitude. I might change my mind as I slowly learn to use the new system, but new systems are supposed to make things EASIER not harder. So far I see the failboat pulling into harbor.

I found a positive.
On Windows 7, after a while, some of the cores in my CPU would continue running even if all programs were shut down.
With Windows 8 running all day, there is almost 0 activity in my cpu cores at the moment. So Windows 8 does a very good job of shutting down memory bleeding and other activities once a program is closed.

8 is supposed to be very efficient with task management and process management. When you move an app into the background it cuts resources to that app to a minimal and focuses solely on the app that is being used.

it definitely does that.
I still can't turn the system off without it restarting. I tried putting the computer to sleep mode and it did the same thing. It went off for a short time, then it came back on to tell me it had a problem and wanted to know if I would send the error report to Mr. Softy.
So as of this moment I can't find a way to keep the computer off.

Have not had that issue.
My only complaint was the metro apps weren't working and the solution I had to use ended up removing all of my programs.
Then as I started installing them I got a driver error and kept getting BSoD. I think I've fixed that, but it had a tendency to strike when I tried installing things and I haven't tried that in a while, so perhaps I haven't noticed it because I am avoiding it.

I'm downloading the 90 day free trial and dual booting it to check it out.
I'll decide if I wanna drop $40 on it or not after that.
I'm getting Windows Phone 8, so I probably will get it, since Metro is pretty much WP8.

Only reason I got it was because I'm contemplating getting a Surface and I wanted to be familiar with the UI.
