She was talking about using them for hiking. Regardless of what boot you wear, when you get water in them it gets complicated. I don't get your reasoning here.
You're going to have to cross a creek somewhere along the way. Crossing barefoot isn't always the best option. Regular boots dry out a lot faster than goretex boots once the insides are wet. I've had goretex hiking boots before. I won't use them again for spring/summer/fall hiking, or any hiking at all in the south.
As others have said, if you're in a snow situation, that's a different matter.

I don't like gortex either. Too hot in summer and forever to dry.
In snow I used to wear good leather boots with wool sock. Snow seal the boots very good.

We are going to need you to post a picture of your legs to get a better idea about what these boots are going to be attached to. This will help us give you the best recommendation.
Nice try!

You got a possessive man or what?
Maybe I'm referring to myself as a fan of LSU mascot, Mike the Tiger!

Well, according to the interwebz tigers are pretty possessive over their women so I guess that's a yes.

I have a pair of old Doc Martens that I wear in snow sometimes and they do the trick. Soles suck, and have to put cleats on them but they do a good job of keeping the feet dry.
