I work in the media and have for years - publications that charge subscriptions have to make money and they have to sensationalize the story so it sells magazines, newspapers, etc.

They will "stretch" the truth to make the story juicier. If it were an uninteresting story, no one would buy the publication.

True. And again, since SI is run by CNN, they tend to be okay with stretching the truth to the point of it absolutely butchering the truth. Watch any one of AC360's "investigative" reports. They all look groundbreaking, but they are in fact, bullshite.

To a degree. Subscription costs normally don't cover much more than what it costs to produce the product. Ad sales are the money maker. I wouldn't go so far as to paint SI as one of these sensational publications, but if Thayer is what everyone says he is, there was a terrible call in judgement on hiring him and then allowing this story to run.
