Actually the risk of them being caught with fabricated stories is way higher than the reward of selling a few extra magazines. They could lose a LOT of subscribers.

Not just because this story is untrue, but because it causes people to wonder what other stories they print are untrue.

although i agree with you, dont be naive....SI is a dying sports magazine and are on the level of gossip magazines now

Yeah, much as it sucks, you have to ask yourself: If we weren't talking about LSU, who would you believe? A writer for SI or some shady guy running a shady club? I find the $2500 part of the story to be extremely suspect.
