80s and 90s Series A&M Contract blah blah blah

Can someone refresh me on the details of this contract dispute regarding the series that we played with A&M from 1986 - 1995? I know I read an intelligent article (or post) on it a while back, probably in the lead-up to the Cotton Bowl. It had something to do with a different interpretation of the term of the contract, if I recall.
Truly, it was fear that motivated us to drop the series with A&M, and it was a greater fear that prevented them from agreeing to play us again any time in the 2000s. Just wanted to view the facts.

You are never going to get a straight answer from either side.

I'm not concerned with their side. The Aggies live in a reality which is governed by rules separate from the rest of college football.
I want the LSU version of the facts.

Found this:
"LSU eventually refused to play the final two games and the schools settled the matter for $100,000. Attempts by LSU to renew the series have been rebuffed, insiders say, because of lingering hard feelings over breaking the contract."
In this old article from Nola.com Jim Kleinpeter has a funny name

If my memory serves me right, we had to cancel the game when the SEC added an additional conference game. It was needed because we added Arky and USC to the SEC.

quote:This is correct, although we didn't "have to" cancel but opted to. Otherwise we lost the revenue from having an extra home game every other year.

There was an opt out clause for either party providing in the contract. The dispute was over whether this situation qualified. A$M squawked but has no recourse because the language supports LSU's interpretation. As someone else stated, aggies never let facts intrude on their self-created delusions.

That's pretty much the way I remember it.
