1977 - Even bigger screw job than 1966. Alabama's lone loss was a road opener against Top 10 ranked Nebraska by a touchdown. Alabama went on to sweep their schedule included a road win at #1 ranked USC. They also easily beat the same Ole Miss team that only a week later beat might Notre Dame. That same Notre Dame was #5 going into the Cotton Bowl and leapfrogged #3 Alabama (who beat Ohio State 35-6 in the Sugar Bowl) after beating #1 Texas.

Not a screw job

Please explain to me how the team with a better record against 3 common opponents wasn't screwed over?

Notre Dame and Alabama common opponents that year:

USC - Alabama barely won at USC, Notre Dame won big at home against USC

Miami - Alabama and Notre Dame both won by over 35 points

Ole Miss - Alabama won by 24 while Notre Dame lost by 7

Notre Dame beat #1 Texas handily. Alabama beat Top 5 Ohio State 35-6. Other than the 3 common opponents it looks like a tie to me with Alabama with the better record against common opponents.

ND was the BEST team in 1977. I don't care what you say.
