Has anyone ever seen the infield fly rule called 30 feet into the outfield before tonight? Maybe its a technically correct call. I've just never seen it before on a similar play.
I've seen it called a few feet, maybe 10, into the outfield but NEVER that deep. Typically it's when the infielder has to take a few steps into the outfield to make the simple catch. I've never seen it called like that last night.

If it makes the Braves fans feel any better, the Cards experienced one of the worst calls in MLB history in the 1985 world series against the KC Royals. It forced a game 7 which took away our momentum. We lost.
However, that blown call actually cost us a game that we were about to win. Last Night's blown call didn't determine the game. You may have scored a run or two, but you entered the inning down 3 runs. I believe that even with bases loaded, Motte (one of the best closets in America) would have got us out of that inning.
It sucks for Braves' fans. The call simply makes the loss far more bitter. But be honest with yourselves...the better team won last night. The Cards would have won the game anyhow.
You have to put the benefit of the doubt on the team up 3 runs in the 8th, who is well known as one of the best clutch teams in the history of baseball. The Braves are more known for dropping the ball in big high pressure games.

Judgement or not it was not the right call. My biggest problem with MLB is the "it's part of the game" attitude. It is so stale and old. This isn't the 1920's, the game should be evolving and should be using every means possible to ensure the integrity of the game. There is a reason MLB has fallen so far behind the NFL and NBA and I believe one of the reasons is the sports refusal to change their attitude that bad calls are just part of the game so to the fan that pays good money and invest so much time and energy into a team sorry, it's just part of the game. There are too many other things and sports to follow these days vs 70 years ago.
