(INSIDE JOKE WARNING - THIS IS FOR CHOCTAW)
Yeah, we were averaging almost 39 points per game (~38.5) before 1/9.
In all seriousness, we've griped for years that if we just got out of the 80s, total offense wise, and to an arbritrary level (I've even said "the 40s"), with our defense, we should be unbeatable.
Everybody else is adapting and nothing lasts forever. Our defense still looks smothering, but, thus far, have not appeared to have the big play ability of the last couple of years (particularly last year). Likewise, our special teams appear to have taken a step back - the OBJ 2 returns for touchdowns (*almost*) looked to be changing that. We're still kicking fairly well, but special teams does not appear to be the strength it was last year(some shanks, a missed FG and now fielding punts is an exercise so fraught with drama, it should be on AMC).
Having said all of that - a win is a win is a win. 4-0 is still 4-0. A win @ Auburn is still a win @ Auburn. This SAME b*tching was going on after Mississippi State last year and we rolled all the way to the big game.
The total offensive productivity improvement is DRASTIC - ~20%. Defense still looks smothering. Much of the complained about problems can be fixed - personal fouls, offensive penalties generally, execution problems in the passing game - none of these make it so that we don't have a servicable QB.
I'm excited about the stretch run to Atlanta.
