(1) Pass protection atrocious;

That's a bit strong. The line allowed two sacks. They weren't dominant by any stretch of the imagination, but "atrocious" is also wrong. They could play better, as we expected that to be a team strength, and right now it isn't.

quote:

(2) WR's dropped balls and didn't consistently separate;

No arguments. The receiving corps is the team's worst unit right now.

quote:

(3) Run blocking erratic;

Meh. Taking out sacks, we rushed for 197 yards. That's pretty darn good. I would've liked to have converted some more 3rd and shorts, but I have no real complaints here. The team effectively and consistently ran the ball.

(4) Critical turnovers;

Mett's second fumble was pretty bad, but that's about it. And the team didn't turn it over once in the 2nd half while clinging to a one-score lead. LSU was +1 on turnovers on the game. Hard to complain about that.

quote:

(5) Playcalling rote and questionable, especially where we repeatedly ran directly into nine man fronts;

People will always question when the play doesn't work. We got into 3rd and shorts, and then only converted half of the time. You're supposed to be able to convert those, but I have no problem just mashing forward on 3rd and 2. Especially when the receivers can't catch. We ran some sweeps to Shep which was nice to see, and the passing game was able to stretch the field, but could do more so if guys would haul in the ball.

quote:

(6) Defense incredible, save for one or two missed coverages (thank God Frazier overthrew McCalleb);

I'm shocked Frazier overthrew someone the one time all game someone was open. I wouldn't call that "thank God" territory, it was a deep pass from an erratic arm who hadn't had open looks all night.

(7) We beat a 1-2 18 point underdog by a measely safety. Not a great night. Sloppy.

There is no other column for "ugly wins" or "should've lost". It's a win. Definitely sloppy though. But its the old Bill Parcells win -- you get the W, but also plenty of ammo to yelll at the team for. LSU now has two wins in 15 years at Auburn, so I'm not going to complain about this one.

We need to improve, but this game wasn't the disaster you think it is. It was a sloppy game, but it was also a good gut check. The team never panicked, and Mett took care of the ball in the 2nd half and let the defense take us home. Good decision making.

Your analysis is fair. Our disagreements are predominantly a matter of degree. I don't consider the game a "disaster" simply because we won, due to an incredible defensive effort.
