I thought it was pretty awesome. First half had the comedy, the second had the plot advancement. It felt like an older episode.
SPOILER
"The Robin" was cheesy and far-fetched, but lets be honest almost every play Barney uses is cheesy and far-fetched. I thought it was the best and most clever way to get to the proposal/ close and explain the Patrice storyline.

The entire show has redeemed itself.
I wouldn't go that far.
My reaction is more like Robin's initial thoughts on the play he pulled. That's how I've felt about this season, and even some episodes last season. We've been getting manipulated.
Apparently I'm not as flaky as Robin, because I'm not immediately back on board after being manipulated.

Knowing the show, I expected it was a ploy for Barney to ask Robin by the time she and Ted were in the limo. That was a clever way to tie it all in and I liked it.

Sitting through all the bad episodes this season was worth it tonight. What an ending! I could see it coming when he mentioned that was Patrice's favorite spot & then Robin said it was hers too.
Now the question is, when will they have the wedding episode. Hopefully very soon, so we can meet Teds wife.

During the twitter convo with the creator he said he didn't know if there was going to be a season 9, and they have a hall of fame of things to work in before the end.
Ted is definitely going to meet someone at that party.

I doubt it. The season started off with him being on the same platform as the mother. They usually tie in the first scene of the season with the last.

The 5 minutes after Barney got unjinxed in the car were fricking epic.
Also, "The Robin" was definitely a clever way for Barney to do it, but like someone mentioned I think I probably would've reacted a little more like Robin did at first. I guess putting a ring in front of a chick can make em forget just about anything though!

Ted was wearing a Tux in the first episode this season at the train station when he saw the girl with the yellow umbrella. Do you think he meets her after his party or after a wedding?

After the wedding. Although, I may need to watch the opening scene again - I thought he said he was coming from the wedding.

You have to remember though, both Robin and Barney are pretty strange emotionally so you could say Barney knew how she would react the whole time he was planning this. Although it did say "Hope she says yes," on the back of the play card, you could assume it was never actually a question.

So what happens next? This scene was in the future, taking place ten hours after Ted was talking Robin down before her wedding. We still need to get to this point. How long will HIMYM make us wait before returning to this point? Season 7 began with Barney's wedding day, but didn't return to it until the season finale. If this is the last season of HIMYM, we're going to have to return here sooner rather than later. We've watched Ted fall in love with Robin, Victoria, Stella, and Zoey—the story of Ted falling in love with the mother of his children needs time to be told. This show now has us closer to hearing that story than we've ever been before.

He was. It was raining, not snowing, at the wedding.

Yea pretty sure the train station was in some random arse town though. Not sure why he'd leave the city after his party to go to this random place. I'd expect it to be after the wedding.

Just watched it again (I'm a nerd). He's wearing a Boutonnière in the first scene that he isn't wearing at the party. They usually don't overlook stuff like that.

How selfish was everyone besides Robin tonight. Barney absolutely had to propose the same night as Ted's big night? Marshall and Lily couldn't find another night to spend away from Marvin/stay home with him?

Huh? She was going up to the roof to stop a guy from proposing. Seems like she was the most selfish of all of em.
But yea everyone was pretty selfish outside of Ted.

True. But she wasn't going to do it, until Ted encouraged her.
