Boiled crabs question

Bought 4 dozen crabs last night, alive and well, put straight on ice. Defrosting ice now and as expected all are dead.
I've been told plenty times they are fine, but I'm second guessing after googling the topic.
Thoughts?

Dont they just go to "sleep" like crawfish?

I'd cook them right now, but the quality of the meat has likely diminished . The longer you wait, the worse it'll get.

They are sleeping good if so lol.
Definitely not sleeping, but were definitely alive before being put on the ice.

They're in, just looking for some reassurance

Before you cooked 'em, were the legs limp, or tight against the body?
If they weren't moving but the limbs were still tight against the body, they were alive and fine.
If they were limp, well .... them was dead.
