Yeah, in my opinion, the show gets better and more cohesive after the first season.
The whole "Colorado Kid" aspect actually starts making sense.

For some reason - Almost the entire first season I thought the Colorado Kid was the kid standing next to her in the newspaper photo. Couldn't see the forest for the trees kinda thing.
