The fair catch kick is a rarely used rule in some forms of American football that allows a team, after making a fair catch of an opponent's kick, to attempt a field goal freely from the spot of the catch

a guy at work pointed this out to me.

I think Neil Rackers and the Cardinals attempted it not too long ago.

If 1969 is in the 90s, then you're correct.

Wasn't the ball on a tee though?

Yes. Under the rule, the kick is from the spot of the fair catch, you can use a kicking tee and the defense has to line up at least 10 yards from the ball. So, the kicker gets a full running start, and it is more like putting kick off thru the uprights that a field goal.

Is that only in high school?

Kicking tee is only in HS

It would be awesome if they could use a tee in the NFL.
People would certainly try it more often.

Probably not. It's only beneficial at the end of the first or second half. Alot of things have to go right to even have an opportunity at the kick.

NFL kickers could make it from the 35-40 consistently.
