First, I don't think she ever really wanted Ted. She wanted to hurt Walt (because, well, he was being a lying a-hole even at that point) and do something that would get him away from her. It was the equivalent of Walk hitting on his boss in order to get fired.

Second, he got himself into the position where Gus was a threat to his family. As Mike pointed out to him, if he had just done his damn job there would not have been a problem. Killing Gus at that point was entirely in his own self interest. Don't pretend for a moment that it was altruistic.
