Anyone who thinks birdshot will do the best to STOP a perpetrator has been mislead. It spreads way too quickly and the BBs don't have nearly enough mass to go very deep into the skin. If they are up close and personal, of course it will blow their shite apart. But at 10-20 feet, your pattern has a chance of opening up and simply peppering a robber, like this



In this video, TNoutdoors9 did a ballistic gel test with birdshot and determined that it is quite ineffective at doing anything but giving someone a little pain.

00 Buck and #1 Buck are still my top-tier home defense rounds. The Winchester PXD1 is also a viable option, but you don't get as large of a pattern with a slug. This will prove my point.
