00 is overpenetrating inside a house on a human. It doesn't do as much damage a #4 Buckshot will and it's also a lot more likely to penetrate walls and kill someone else in the house.
That's why cops go with it.
Not that 00 won't do it. It will do the frick out of it, but it's not 'tuned' to a human at ten feet.

i prefer a mossberg 500 to the 870 simply on the position of the slide release (behind the trigger guard as opposed to in front of it). its really the only difference between the two.
