I think part of Jaime's redemption is distancing himself from Cersei until he can see her for the crazy monster she is. I think Jaime dying beside Cersei would be a detriment to his character.

I think part of Jamie's redemption arc is showing how it's hard for him to get past Cercei. When he gets back to KL he bangs Cercei and tried to talk her into going public and getting married. So I think Cercei is his tragic downfall
