Just finished a re-read of DoD and have have read either the text, a transcript or summary of (I think) all of the sample WoW chapters. So, I'm interested in a little speculation of the immediate next happenings.

Particularly, I'm curious about the outcome of the two battles and Jon's fate.

For the Mereen battle' signs seem to point to victory against the Yunkai. Barristan's attack is going well, the Iron Born are attacking the Yunkish ships and engaging on land. Tyrion and Brown Ben and company are thinking of swinging over. Danny is out there in the grass sea with her dragon and maybe a few Dothraki if she can cow them or win them over.

Of course anything can happen with Martin but that one seems to be going well.

With the Stannis/Bolton battle it's a lot more muddled. I know there is a lot of speculation that the letter from Ramsay was a fake or even not from him. But I don't know. At least Stannis got word about the Karstarks in time to apparently short circuit that danger. But both sides seem to be in a pretty shaky situation. Is Manderly going to flip (whether or not he gets word back from Davos?) Can Stannis' men hold off the Bolton men if they attack?

Jon - well this post is long enough. Will visit those questions later in the thread.

These have proven unreliable in the past. Between an amateur transcriber who's likely been drinking and Martin making significant changes, (a reference to "the sword" was removed from the chapter where Tyrion met Duck and Half-maester), you can't put too much stock in summaries from convention readings.

But I always read them anyway.

And, don't forget, she's out there bleeding...pale mare or indication of renewed fertility? Prolly the latter, but what of the prophecy has she fulfilled (east to go west,etc...Son (of The Sun - Martell) set in the east, ok...)to return to an heir-birthing physicality?

Or did Darrio knock her up?

I'm thinking the fact that the former blood-rider of Drogo is now the ruler of Khalasar, in conjunction with past differences between the two bodes well for a capture of Dany, but Drogon's presence and current size will surely numb any lingering ill will from the new Khal...gotta remember, the Dothraki have (surely)known the news for a while that Dany had dragons, and the tall tales have become legend, and the legend has had time to grow a pretty tall shadow in the minds of the Khalasar...to come upon Drogon in all his glory will IMO have one of two effects on the new Khal:

1) Fear/ apprehension that can be shaped into respect, when he makes the connection that Drogon is her 'mount', she continues to live as she did with his people, and in this way, continues to honor his culture as well as his late best friend, her husband (who by the way will be another "eternally undefeated in battle"...akin to Rob Stark, Eddard Stark, Robert Baratheon, Tywin Lannister)
or
2) * A woman on a black flying horse is revealed to be an ancient Dothraki legend (probably born of sightings of Valyrian riders from before the Doom)
In recognizing this, the Khal no longer feels shame from being the past - bullied by a girl, and again he sees her with honor and respect, immediately pledging the D-raki version of fealty. * Very un-Martin like, I think...

I guess there is also a possibility that it's not the Khal that makes the connection but his riders, and he has to challenge Dany for control of the Khalasar.

...or she flat out challenges him...would give us an actual example of a dragon used as a weapon or sword...

any way you slice it, I think Dany returns to Mereen with a hefty 10,000 + mounted cavalry to add to her already impressive infantry. Now to secure ships (Victarian) and heavy artillery and she could finally be on her way...
