I'm probably more intrigued about how the Maesters are going to play into this vs. the High Septon and Co.

This. The High Septon will prove to be troublesome, but is not a major player IMO. The Maesters are just way to sneaky. It is said that Maesters throw away their real name, but someone (think Lady Dustin?) says they believe they stay loyal to their houses. Would be a nice twist if all the High Maesters are inclined to one particular house and wreck shite across the realm in order to better serve that particular agenda.
