Now THIS is something I've never thought of, and truly would LOVE. I'm going to go back and read his conversations with Jon, which would be even more epic than they already are if true.

But, off the top of my head, wouldn't Mance being at the feast at Winterfell with Robert and the Lannisters make this VERY dangerous?? If he was spotted, everything would have gone to hell in a flash. This could be a problem for that theory.

Yeah, no way Mance would risk getting around people who would almost certainly recognize him. Highly doubt this theory is true.

Another great thought that I hadn't considered. I like it. Tell me more about what you think his motivations could be for this??

I'm thinking he's working for Varys and trying to put even more strain between the Lannisters and the Dornishmen.

The problem with that theory is that Dayne was one of the top 5 most recognizable people in Westeros, there is no way in hell he could reboot himself somewhere else in the realm, much less at the Wall. Every retired knight who took the Black would know him on sight, Mormont included.

It's one thing to hide out across the sea like Selmy, quite another to do it in your home lands.
