Was there a 30 fo 30 about the Olympic basketball gold medal game in 1972?

I did not know about what happened until they mentioned it during this eyars basketball games and I researched it.
I immediately thought of 30 for 30 and how this seemed like it would be a great topic for one.
Was it ever done? Any documentary type things done for what happened with this?

That was before ESPN. Not eligible because of the second "30."

That was only for the first season.
They should do one. Seems like a lot of people haven't heard about it.

I think HBO already did one and it was fantastic.

Yes, HBO did one about 5 years ago. Gives you an in-depth view to that travesty. They even talked to some Soviets to get their point of view.
The title is ":03 from Gold".

I'll have to check this out.
What did those bastards have to say for themselves?

The Soviet players didn't cheat us, FIBA did. They viewed it as the arrogant Americans not playing to the whistle. They did explain why they kept replaying the final 3 seconds, and they had a nice bit on the appeal.
:03 from Gold is one of the best sports docs I've ever seen. Find it. Watch it. It's great.
The fact they blew the friggin' substitution horn WHILE DOUG COLLINS TOOK A FREE THROW is proof that the organizers were trying to screw the Americans.

Not sure all the way myself. Some say they blew the horn because the Soviet coach had called a timeout, but he wasn't given one for no reason. That horn being blown started the whole mess.

They act just like you would think they would, as if they won their gold outright & fair.

Who wouldn't, really? Too much bad blood at that time. For people in the thick of it like that the tune isn't going to change.

:03 to gold is amazing. Really pissed me off how bad we were jobbed and the russians belief that they won fair and square. I love how none of the americans have got their medals and most left instructions in their will that nobody in the family can claim them.

The ussr substituted a player between :03 and :01 despite no stoppage of play. (score sheet lists no TO.)
The ussr coach left the box and should have been teed up.
Under no reading of fiba rules allowed the chancellor of fiba to reset the clock to :03 As the clock operater had an error.
The baseline official on the final throw in, despite the game being over according to any understanding of fiba rules,
motioned to the US player to back off (and make a toss in easier) at the possible threat of a technical foul.
It was hilariously bad. Fiba officials involved should be fired and never allowed into fiba events again.
