If you were going to spend somewhere between 3-4 grand (broke college kid, not an OT baller) on a mower, what would you buy?

I'm mowing about 7 yards right now just for some extra income but debating making it my job next summer. I'm pretty mower ignorant.

3-4 k is Baller money for a damn mower in my world.

I have one yard to cut 0.8 Acres
And I have a cub cadet 2815
52" cut. It's 12 years old. Yes 12.

Next mower, if this one ever dies, will be a ZTR type.

If you're buying a mower to mow a few yards, one of your main concerns should be parts and service! If u buy any brand and there's no dealer to support it or parts are not readily available and that mower breaks down, it's gonna get put u behind. It's one thing for a homeowner to have his mower in the shop for a week but it'll cost u customers to be down that long.

Like it was mentioned earlier your 4k is better spent on a used commercial grade unit than a small residential unit!

Somethings to consider, what size trailer do you have, do you need to get into fenced areas, how big are the yards and how much time do you have for these yards to cut and travel between them each week, are you planing on your other equipment(edger, line trimmer, blower, etc...)

3-4 grand can buy you a decent new walk behind hydro model or a good used zero turn or stand on.

Since its not a full-time use as of now, I'd suggest getting a lightly used hydro walk behind with a sulky, around 48-60" depending on your yards and if need to get into a fence, you might need smaller. You should be able to get one for sub 3k.

As for brand, like stated, choose one with a larger local business. Yes you can order online parts, but your customers won't like the week or so you will be waiting on shipping.

Are you thinking of doing a one man crew or more.

Kabota's are the best around... But I'm not sure if you can touch one for 3-4 K. I would stay away from John Dere... You are paying for the name and you can get a lot more for your money with other brands.

Get the most horsepower you can get in the price range. Other than that buy from somewhere that has good service. No matter what you will need parts for it one day.
