I'm sure this was an out and out 'shitfest', which improved exponentially once they saw the audience was really into them.

In honor of the Saints playing a shitty excuse for a football game, here is a shitty excuse for a non-Phish post:

Phil Ochs on Come, Read To Me a Poem (April 12, 1967)



Phil Ochs was a talented folk singer-songwriter of the period, probably second only to Dylan. Come, Read To Me a Poem was apparently a public TV show dedicated to that particular art form. This being the '60s, there is a lot of rock-lyrics-are-poetry talk. The interview section of the tape is actually fairly interesting for Ochs' discussion of the songwriting process.
