Can anyone give me some advice? I recently went through my dad's entire collection and I kept a stack of about 20 awesome records. I also have four framed in my house. Today I found this at my grandmother's house. It has built in speakers. It can play multiple sizes(I guess that's normal). It still turns slowly and you can hear the wheel trying to turn it faster. If I move this out of her house, will I be able to get good use out of it or never be able to find parts? I really don't know where to start because this thing is gonna be too heavy to just take around town and ask people about. I just don't know much about record players, but I was about to buy one in new orleans last weekend and didn't. Then I found this big boy. Can anyone tell me if this thing is a good idea. It's not the greatest looking piece so I don't want it if its not gonna work well. Also, how cool is this piece? Is it very "meh" or is it something to be proud of?

I like vintage shite, so I'd say go for it. However it is big as shite and may be in the way. You can get a new record player (even one that looks like an old one) for pretty cheap if you just want to play the records.

Man, that was a state-of-the-art entertainment system back in the mid-late 60's.

Would y'all move this into your home? It doesn't really match but I have an extra room I am trying to put some stuff in and make it look cool and I need a player. I mean just think if I get it running well. Would it be worth a lot of money when I'm older. I mean hopefully it will be 100 years old before I die.

That is really cool. Definitely brings back some memories of my grandparents' house. If you think it would be great for decoration and a conversation piece, I say go for it. However, it may not be best for sound.

I bought one of these a year ago:
Turntable

Cheap and sounds pretty good with my receiver.

Man, we had one just about exactly like that. It played 33,45,and 78s. You could put it in a sort of a neutral state and turn records backwards manually. We played that stupid Beatles Revolution no. 9 backwards to hear 'turn me on, dead man.'

Good luck finding parts. I think ours was Motorola back when they were actually made here in the states.

I've been trying to restore an old 1940s Firestone radio/record player. I found the schematics online but it's been next to impossible to find anyone who works on them. Right now my player has been rotting in some old dude's warehouse for the past year. He's the only person who works on them anywhere around.

I decided that I am gonna just move that thing in and I am gonna strip it, antique it, change the hardware, and if it doesn't work and I can't get the parts, oh well.

My mom has one just like that if not the same one in storage. I was thinking about changing out the speakers and adding a mp3 input but it takes up a lot of space. Not sure if it's worth the trouble.

That's the sytem my parents had when I was growing up.....pre component systems. I would try to getting it working if I were you. Just show that pic and get the make and model # to a repair guy.
FYI, some of those consoles like that had TVs built into them too.
