Who was the better LSU QB?

For me its Mauck > Flynn

Matt Mauck 2003 Season

Att - Comp - Int - Pct - Yards - TD

358 - 229 - 14 - 64.0 - 2825 - 28

Matt Flynn 2007 Season

Att - Comp - Int - Pct - Yards - TD

359 - 202 - 11 - 56.3 - 2407 - 22

*Did not play in SEC Champ.

Mauck was better at LSU. Flynn had a much better WR's in my opinion.

Numbers are nearly identical... And I would be happy if Mett had similar numbers to those.

Flynn also missed a chance to rack up stats against Middle Tennessee

I agree with this AND how good could that 2002 team have been had Saban not screwed up and left Mauck in against FLA with a 36-7 lead????

Plus Mauck set the LSU record for Td passes in 2003.

it's kind of a wash IMO. both had some really clutch moments (though sometimes because of mistakes they'd made earlier in games). but still they kept their wits and led comebacks.

Mauck may have better overall numbers, but had the benefit of having played half of 02 as the starter and staying healthy all of 03, Flynn had 1 start under his belt prior to 07 and was nicked up. and Mauck seemed more TO prone against top teams.

not sure about that...Clayton, Henderson and Green vs. Doucet, Byrd and Lafell before he learned to catch.

As far as the OP goes, JJ was better than both because of his QB rating in 2009!!!

nah. 03 was Clayton, Devery and Skyler at their best. 07 was a hurt Early, Byrd at his best, and Lafell when he had that slump when he couldn't catch a cold.

Flynn missed two games and one of them was Middle Tenn - a chance to rack up stats. Flynn also had RP coming in at times, which took away a few stats oppportunities.

I give the nod to Flynn basically because he had a better, more "live" arm and because he played a little better in big games. Both QB's were prone to some mistakes, especially early in games but Flynn's offense was always productive, never scoring fewer than 27 points in regulation time in a game he started. Indeed, in Flynn's two losses, the team scored 27 and 28 points in regulation. Mauck's team often won games in which the O didn't do much. (e.g., OU [14 offensive points], Ole Miss [10 offensive points, I think]). Because the D in '07 was nowhere near as good as the D in '03, Flynn was counted on more often to win games - think, LSU-Bama (41 pts.), LSU-Auburn (30 points), LSU-Florida (28 points). I go with Flynn.

disagree here. Mauck had the better arm IMO. Flynn may have had better deep touch (and that's a "may"), but Mauck had the "liver" arm.

Terrific comparison of 2 QBs who have made LSU proud not only what they brought to the field of play to include national championships, but for the way they have lived their lives since. Congrats to Dr. mauck and to Flynn for the big NFL contract recently signed.
