If I were ever to go into a movie not expecting much, I'd just rent the movie when it comes out on DVD.
I only see movies in theaters when it's a movie that needs to be watched on the big screen or when I can't wait for it to come out on video.

That is my mentality when I see a movie in a theater.
I do realize and appreciate it is not everyone's view. Some go to the movies not needing to see amazing/noteworthy films and have an okay time. I tend to lean toward a more cautious approach to movies. The way I go to the movies and view them does tend to lead to more of a letdown than a surprisal of how good they are.
