Hull itself is 35lbs. With drive and seat, 65lb I think.

Yeah it’s a clean setup no doubt and in his car situation it just makes sense
Damn thing not cheap through @2400! But
I’d fish it fo sho

And I hit PAC yesterday damn winds were supposed to lay dawn, nope didn’t happen so made my way into the marsh, water was dirty and the grass is back so just fished along the edges and main cuts
Lost a couple fish including a very nice flounder still found a couple reds and some dink trout
Drank some white cans and made a day of it

Nice. Going down Sat for the first time in about 6 months. Feels like Christmas.

Sounds like a rough first trip.

Did you end up with the Hobie i11s?

If so, get yourself a crate or icechest for your gear and tackle and mount some rod holders to it.

Otherwise, those rod floats are great and very useful when surf launching.

As far as your gear getting tangled it is really just a matter of being mindful of where your line is at as you drift. Did you have multiple lines out?

Yeah I got the i11s. Surprised at how well it moves.

I have a Hobie H Crate tied back behind the seat. That's what I used for my rod holders but I didn't realize there were bungees in there to make them even tighter. Still don't think that would have prevented losing my rod.

Bought a new rod today and will be buying some rod floats for sure.

I never had multiple lines out. I never even got to cast the rod I launched. I had casted my first rod, and it got tangled with the 2nd rod before I ever got a chance to use it.

I am guessing to have multiple lines out you cast them to opposite sides of the boat?

Also what is a good way to quickly be able to change lures. I have some swivels that seem to have snap ends on them so I am guessing just tie up a bunch of lure rigs that can easily be snapped in/out?

Don't have to be on opposite sides of the boat, but it's best not to put them right next to each other.

This will come with time, or you can practice tying fishing knots.

ETA: As for hooking your other lines while casting, I've found it best to have the rods straight up right behind my back.

Thanks

Also what is a good sinker weight. I had 1oz sinkers and I am not sure if that is heavy enough.

Depends on how deep you are and how fast the water is moving.

ETA: What kind of fishing are you doing?

Sinker weight is dictated by current speed, depth and speed you're drifting (impacted by wind). You want just enough to maintain contact with your bait. It will literally change every time you go out.

Tactical Angler Power Clips

I've been using these in 75 lb for a while. Some situations still call for tying line to lure directly, but these work great for me on switching topwaters or twitch baits quickly.

Then played catch an release
Said they water was pretty clear, more grass to help clean it up

I’m thinking about hit Elmer’s to surf fish Sat
Just gotta figure how to get to the water

Landed two of these Monday morning (you can see the coast in the background)

The first one I caught within 30 seconds of putting a line in the water, and it was my first Carolina blue colored mahi. Alas, I was woefully unprepared and he stayed in the kayak for about 5 seconds before flopping back out to sea. Caught this guy a few minutes later. He’s going in a tortilla here shortly

Rise, you mind sharing your email? I am heading that way in a few weeks and would love a few tips. I am planning on staying inshore mostly but I may venture out if I can get a good game plan.

Username at gmail. I’d be glad to give you a few spots. I just moved back to this area but fished it really hard 10 years ago and have kept in touch with guys down here

If you’re staying closer to destin I won’t be much help with inshore fishing in choctawhatchee bay. Only spot I’ve had decent luck over there is just fishing the mid bay bridge. If you’re looking to go inshore in the PC bay systems then I can point you in the right direction.

That said, the tarpon will be here thick in a few weeks and destin pass area is the destination for them in the panhandle
