The overall opinion is that I could give a frick what our class ranking is, as long as we're competing for SEC titles.
I would tend to agree with you but last year SI had an interesting take on the NC hunt when asked why it was picking Bama over LSU. It simply came down to a recuiting class rating. When a team has pulled the top class in three of five years it has resulted in multiple NC's for that team. It happened at USCw,Fla, and now Bama.
So beware. Bama pulled another top level class last year and will do probably as good this year. What that means for us is a greater degree of difficulty to make the NC hunt as long as we have to keep playing those SOB's who are getting a higher rated class than us.

Technically, USCw has no participant-sanctioned NC's in the BCS era. None. In fact, USCw has never officially participated in any designated National Championship Game in its history. Even the loss to Texas was vacated. The BCS allowed Texas to keep its Crystal Football, though the game itself was stricken from the record book.

Did they do a survey on sec titles too? Bama only has 1 of those. Also, What service were they using cause the top class is quite subjective each year. What about the others that recruit top 5 annually. Im looking at you texas. It comes down to talent, experience, and coaching. If a team consistently recruits top 10 and has competent coaches, the opportunity to compete for titles is there.

Excellent post. That kind of sums up my point. Are we going to be standing toe-to-toe with the other elite programs is the next 2-3 years with our rating going down or is it that the staff is finding extremely talented kids that are under the radar.
Under the definition of star ratings:
5-star: player who will be a superstar, AA player
4-star: four year starter, All conference player
3-star: 2-3 year starter, solid core AQ player
2-star: 1-2 year starter or role player for AQ program
1-star: Mid-major
That's just my assumption of how the recruiting services rate players. Our coaches have proven that they can develop and evaluate with the best programs but our rankings seem to have gone down over the past two seasons. Will it have an affect on our success?
