In any event, back to Jenkins. I am not certain why you claim that we should "trust the defensive coaches." First of all, the LSU staff recruited Jenkins a mere two years ago. Presumably, they thought he was promising enough to warrant a full scholarship. Second of all, there is no actual evidence that the LSU defensive coaches want Jenkins to leave or that they have encouraged him to leave or that they are satisfied with his departure. For all we know, they could be petitioning him to stay on the team or return to the team, whatever the case may be. Finally, I reflexively dismiss any arguments that are premised on the erroneous notion of coaches' infallibility.

What I am trying to explain to you is that IF Jenkins is leaving the team then it's 99.9999% likely that it has to do with other underclassmen moving ahead of him on the depth chart. Jenkins isn't going to leave LSU if he thinks he has a shot at playing time. That's just common sense. So when I say 'trust the coaches' I mean that if they think there are better players on the roster then you and I aren't at practice to dispute this. And if there are players that have moved ahead of Jenkins on the depth chart or are giving him a run for his money then we clearly have more depth at this position than you think.
And of course nobody was thrilled about losing Landon Collins. But this staff has done a great job recruiting top talent and will continue to do so. The defensive staff has also done an AMAZING job at developing the players on that side of the ball. Bottom line is defense (particularly the secondary and DL) are the last of my concerns.

From these tweets it sounds more like an academic/discipline/personal issue:
quote:

"No I can't give up no no I can't give up.-boosie"

"Back to the grind. Yea I fell off for a minute but I have a family that has my back and they gonna to make sure that I succeed.#ambitious"

"We all make mistakes but how we make them and how we come back from them are what defines them.-I was told to be human-thanks @natashatche"
Sometimes kids just aren't happy or don't do well at their first school. As awesome as it must be to be a football player for LSU, it may not be for everybody who has the option.

My understanding is that Jenkins occupied the fourth CB slot at the end of spring practice (Simon, Mathieu, Collins, Jenkins). As such, he was in a position equivalent to that of Ron Brooks last season (Claiborne, Mathieu, Simon, Brooks). Brooks saw a non-trivial amount of playing time as the fourth CB. Moreover, when injuries (Reid) or suspensions (Simon, Mathieu) sidelined starters or caused a reconfiguration of the secondary, Brooks inherited their snaps and was on the field continuously. Accordingly, it stands to reason that Jenkins was going play this season and could ascend to a prominent, key role if injuries sabotaged Mathieu, Simon, or Collins. (Not to mention the fact that Jenkins is only a RSF and could have devloped into a starter as an upperclassman when Simon/Mathiue depart.)

My only point being that losing a talented, young fourth string CB in a defense that relies heavily on nickel isn't particularly comforting, especially when there is no experienced depth behind him (the freshmen CB's may be awesome, but they've never taken a snap) and Vinson decamped as well. All things being equal, it would be better for LSU if Jenkins stays with the team. I'd be disappointed to see him go. That's really all I'm saying.

He's a redshirt freshman. Who are you talking about.

I'm pretty sure your 99.99% is baseless. He was in the 2 deep during spring.
