New place opened on Hwy 30 in the old Shoney's building. they did extensive landscaping and remodeling, and just opened on the 22nd. Went today (5/23) with the Mrs. and had lunch. good crowd, but no wait, we were seated right away. Nice patio, nice bar area, did a great job changing it over from the Shoneys. we ordered a Chimichanga, and some burrito-flauta-taco- lunch combo with a guacamole taco on the side. We also got a small queso as an appetizer.
Our server was a very nice lady named Alex, who was very attentive, but not overboard. The Ice Tea was Community, and was good. The Chimi was greasy, like the fryer oil wasn't hot enough, but had good flavor to the chicken inside. Same problem with the flauta, but the flavor to the shredded beef was very good. the regular taco was good, and the Mrs. enjoyed the guacamole, but said it was a bit much on the taco. (guacamole taco has no meat, just guacamole, cheese, and lettuce in a shell).
the burrito was good, and the queso and salsa were excellent. all in all, it was very good, especially for being only the second day open, with an extensive menu, and a fun looking atmosphere. lots of food, we took a full to go plate home, and the bill was only a little over $26. I look forward to returning in the future.

Glad to know this place is open, I'll be checking it out this weekend.

Gonzales needs more Mexican joints like BR needs more sushi joints.

Are we talking quanity, or quality though. I am a firm believer in the true market economy. If they can pull enough people to survive, why knock them. they have pulled more folks the last 2 days than shoney's did in that location the last month they were open.

Quantity.
And the one thing most people don't realize about G-town, is they have some really good authentic Mexican places. I think that Tex-Mexican place will do well in servicing the South of I-10 folks in the area.

Wasn't knocking them in the least bit. BR seems to support 93 sushi places just fine, but I just laugh once a month when I pass by and see a new one opening.
My experience with the folks that I work with in Gonzales is that they aren't very progressive eaters to say the least, and another Tex-Mex or steak house, or Olive Garden, would do them just fine.
It's not a knock because I don't care what you eat, but I was just stating an observation.

You certainly have to be in the right mood for it, but an avocado taco can actually be pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up. Will have to check it out. Side note there is a new sushi place opening on 73 right off the interstate in Prairieville.

An Olive Garden in Gonzales would absolutely KILL.
I'll go check out El Paso one day, I eat in that area fairly often.
