was i the only one that wanted to see tommy knock out brendan with one arm?

i know i was probably 'supposed' to be rooting for brendan to save his home/family, but i didn't really care. i didn't want him to be thrown in the streets, but ultimately, i cared more about the widow's family than brendan's wife and kids, although i have had a major crush on jennifer morrison since Grind.

yes, but it was not without cause, imo.

dude's mom takes him (by his admitted own choice) away from his father and brother and goes across country. he joins the military, loses every one in his unit, including the closest thing he has had to a family member in several years. buries his mom after a long battle (with cancer, i think).

i'm not denying the fact that he was a shitty person, but his story was more compelling than brendan, imo.

They said he ripped the door off a Bradley... it was just a bit much. Plus that movie had to set back MMA a decade. Did he have a fight go past 20 seconds until the last one? A bazillion dollar payday and the greatest MMA fighters in the world and nobody can go longer than a minute with him.

Plus you just waxed over the fact he was a junkie that went awol. Maybe the money would have helped redeem some part of him (and help the widow.. maybe), but he was a criminal.

Man, if you hated Warrior .... i'd hate for you to watch any other movie where you had to let go of reality even in the least bit.

I didn't hate it and I totally got caught up at the end of it. I just thought it had some holes and the guy was a major douche.

I guess someone can be a Hero and criminal at the same time. How do you think he was scoring all those pills he was taking? Where was he getting money before? The whole time his dad never gave him a dime..

they had prescription labels on them, so i would guess a doctor. i'm not stupid, i know people steal, but i believe they came from 1 or 2 places:
a) a licensed doctor/psych
b) left overs from his mother's stash when she was ill

mother's insurance policy? don't they pay you when you're in the military?

I was definitely rooting for Brendan. In the back of my mind I knew if Tommy won he would not share a dime with his brother. But, Brendan, knowing where Tommy was sending that money, would probably have sent like 1 million to that widow for his brother.

Not to derail this by any means but I was flipping through the channels and noticed the actor that played Brendan played Uncle Owen in the new Star Wars episodes.

He was all messed up and psychotic, but it made the scene where he held his dad after he got loaded that much more powerful.

That line to Brendan in response to him saying Tommy was his brother was pure dick ("you was in the Corps?").

Bastard! I was just getting ready to make a thread about that. I noticed that this past weekend. Totally out of the blue.

This pic makes it even harder to recognize him:

You forgot that she was dying when he was a kid, they were living in a shithole apartment and he rubbed holy water on her to try and help her because they didn't have insurance. Plus, the friendly-fire bombing thing where his friend and entire unit got killed, I can see that messing someone up too. Dude had a real fricked up life.

A flawed hero? Yes, happens all the time. Hell, that might be the most realistic thing about the movie, but you're also complaining about how it was unrealistic.

The older brother's story was stupid. It'd be like Kbeezy suddenly becoming one of the best MMA fighters in the world because he couldn't afford his house payments.

well, in his (and the writer's) defense, he was previously a mma fighter who had been fighting for a few bucks and he did train for a little while leading up to sparta.

the whole tournament thing played into his hands, imo. he was used to fighting multiple opponents on the same night.

then he had the house thing that served as extra motivation. you know it gave him some adrenaline/inspiration at pivotal moments.

i'm not saying any of those things would make him the best middleweight in the world, but they do help.
