I agree. When I read that I was almost thinking Atletico wouldn't even trade them straight up.

Agreed. If anybody would have to throw in 15 million to make that deal happen its definitely Chelsea.

Edit: Joeybarton beat me too it. Also would like to add that atletico could not afford Torres' wages and Chelsea would most likely be supplementing them

How dare y'all imply the great Fernando Torres isn't worth every pence of that 50MIL pound transfer!

Will you be happy if he leaves at a 35 million GBP loss?

why would any fan care about this? It isn't their money and it's not like everything is working out of one pot.

Not sure if this is serious. Obviously it's not their money. They would care because it affects their favorite teams transfer policy and amount of money available. It also speaks to the ability of the people who are running the club to make financial as well as football decisions. If they miss-run a club badly enough they could go bankrupt. Chelsea has been losing 50 million+ per year...

Btw, Ever heard of financial fair play?

Because, at one point Torres was worth a massive transfer. He was at one time the most efficient goal-scorer in the history of the Premier League. He had a few injury spells at Liverpool, but he put up Shearer/Henry numbers when healthy.

Chelsea could have gotten him for far less had Newcastle not set a high price on Andy Carroll. It was foolish business by Liverpool and Chelsea to let a club in need of funds like Newcastle to extort them.

Chelsea, City, Real Madrid and a few others are not affected by bad financial moves like Chelsea made on Torres.

50 mil was too much for Torres at his best! The money we threw at Liverpool was criminal; however, that wasn't Torres' fault. My point is mainly that if he is unhappy at Chelsea for any reason at all, we need to unload him. The toxicity in the locker room festers when a player doesn't want to be there. ESPECIALLY, one who was overpaid and has underperformed.

I don't think he doesn't want to be there. I read the article before it was posted on here and it seemed to me that he just wants some clarification on his role next year. If he doesn't have a future in the regular starting XI then he wants out. I don't blame him. If you aren't playing it's no fun and I admire the fact that he doesn't want to just collect a check.

the way Chelsea does their transfer business would ASTONISH you. RA's personal assistant handles it and basically just writes a check. That's my point here. If they don't care about it, why should a fan? Other clubs, fine. But there's a few clubs that it's pointless.

Actually, that sounds a little more organized than I pictured it.
