He was the only serious contender LSU has had for the Heisman since Stovall (at least until the Dorsey and Mathieu defensive campaigns), the last significant bright spot, from an individual player standpoint, of the McClendon era (the 1979 USC game was a team effort), a great football player and Ambassador for LSU.

Agree...Charles the Great IMO was the best overall running back ever at LSU. One could argue Billy Cannon, Dalton Hilliard or Kevin Faulk, but #4 had all 5 dimensions of great RBs in spades...sprinter speed, moves to make ya miss, power, and soft hands out of the backfield. Only blocking could be questioned, but in that era, we lined up in the I and tossed to Charles. He rarely was asked to block.

I had the privilege of attending LSU from 77-81 and was at every one of his breakout JR and SR year games. Still a great ambassador of LSU too!
