I prefer electric ovens because they hold temperature better and because when you burn gas to cook with, water vapor is created and can throw off baked goods.

As for broiling, electric ovens get touchy because they operate via thermostat and will cycle if the interior temperature gets too high. Since most of broiling is done via radiative heat transfer and not convective, the air in the oven doesn't need to be hot. Crack the door of the oven and prop it open with a ball of aluminum foil, and you can keep the temperature of the oven low enough that the element doesn't cycle and throw off your broiling.

any decent gas range over $500 provides a convection option so cooking evenly isn't really an issue.

i switched to gas earlier this year and i freaking love it. i would never go back.

ps did i mention the 5th burner on here?
