They tried to revolutionize the tablet/phone market with the Padfone but no carriers would have it.
My pick is Samsung. Their hardware is high quality and they seem to have a drive for innovation, demonstrating flexible LCD screens, shipping phones with projectors, and soon releasing the quad core Galaxy S3. They're competing with Apple by moving ahead technologically instead of just mimicry.
htc made a quality phone with the One X, but I feel like they're leaving some of their market behind by dripping physical keyboards.
