The biggest difference a manager can make occurs after the ninth inning and before the first inning. It's mostly about managing personalities and egos and keeping players emotions in check when a team's in a slump and not doing so well. That's why Dusty Baker's actually a great manager because he's good at all those things even though he's a terrible gameday tactician.
