I saw Big Red on local Baton Rouge television when I was in college. He claimed to have originated the Tiger Bait chant and no one was disagreeing with him. Big Red said he copied it from Gator Bait.

I remember Big Red from the Ag Coliseum in early and mid 1960s. Once he got going, perhaps once or twice a game, it was impressive. This was at a time when we couldn't win in basketball, and there was no heat in the Ag, and everyone--perhaps 800 of us--watched from under overcoats. He may have originated "Tiger bait!"; I was in junior high and high school, so no way of knowing if "Tiger Bait" preceded him, but do know it became a more common phrase in the 1970s than it had been in the 1960s.
