Or lack there of. I reside permanently in Georgia but will prb be doing an internship in texas next spring. How do I get out of paying ga income taxes?

not smart
ETA: Op, if you are going to be there for at least a year why not just change your residence to there? I doubt your internship is paying much though. Might not be worth the trouble.

You pay income taxes based on where you are working. As far as I know, you won't be double taxed i.e., paying Texas and Georgia income taxes.
For example, my home of record is Tennessee (no state income tax ), but I used to work in Virginia. I had to pay Virginia state income taxes, but I filed a form every year and I got all of it back without any fees.

Well, I will be living in the state of Texas during the time I work there. But I am not sure how to get out of Ga state taxes.

#1 - make sure the company uses your texas address from the start
#2 - keep a copy of your rental agreement when you return to GA
#3 - ....
#4 Profit

What if I am living with a friend, but also paying rent?

do you have other income in GA? the reason they will question your return is if you have other income reported for GA and your income amount sent to the GA doesn't match your federal. Just keep a copy of anything showing where you worked and be prepared to fight it when they question it.

No I will not.

Thanks
I am sure I can ask the company when it comes time for it how to file to avoid GA taxes but I was kind of wondering about it.

The amount of fail in this thread is amazing. One guy's dad is cheating on his state taxes by owning a trailer and no one else knows what they are talking about.
On your W-2 box 15 is work location. Make sure that your internship employer puts TX not GA. That is all that matters, then when you file report 0 taxable income in GA.

This is correct. You will absolutely not be taxed in Georgia for income you make in Texas.

Thank you! I am truly ignorant to this kind of stuff right now.

10 weeks $15,000? What kind of internship are you making $37.50/hr?

Audit. You work a bunch of overtime and get paid time and a half. One of the guys working this year said he cleared 2000 in a week once. But that would be 70+ hours.

Yep and I will be happily sucked in for 10 weeks and will have the most balling spring break and spring semester ever afterwards.

Just don't be stupid and think you can take your B4 internship pay and annualize it into what your salary is. Don't work like that bro.

Oh I already know. But I would rather be making 50k working 60 hour weeks then sitting my moms basement unemployed like the rest of my friends.
