Two Things That Bother Me About "Titanic"

1.) This is an obvious one and it has bothered many others but why didn't Rose move over and let jack use the headboard also to try to float on and survive? Rewatching the movie (i saw it in 3d at the theater, the headboard was supporting her weight very well and was floating evenly. All I am saying is that they should have at least tried to both float.
2.) The amount of time Jack and Rose spent in the water on the boat without showing Any effects of the cold water was really unbelievable. They were in neck deep water for a good amount of time in that hall way. The water was reportedly 28 to 31F degrees that night. Water like that or anywhere near that temperature would feel like sharp knives piercing you. They swam around in it and we're able to get out and run around showing no signs of being cold or anything. Considering the trying times they were in and the desperation, I could understand adrenaline kicking in but not enough to keep you moving full steam ahead with no affects in that temperature of water.

One thing I don't get is why you care about such insignificant plotholes. Jack doesn't get on so he can die and women across America can cry. They don't show effects of being in cold water so they could act and not shiver through their lines the wholes time. It's a hollywood epic brah.

Exactly. Reminds me of people who complain about movies like Rambo. "That's such bullshite, like 1 dude could really defeat Vietman in a matter of weeks. The American military spent decades over there & lost."

One question I have wondered if men would let women and children be on the boats todays time, or does the women equal rights pops up and their asses drown?

Jack did try to get on it with her at first and the headboard started to flip over, that was when he had her stay on it and he just stayed in the water.
The water in the boat might not have felt as cold since the power was still on and so the heaters would still have been blowing hot air through the vents. That is the most logical stupid answer i can offer

I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. Im a fan of insignificant plot hole discussion though

That is an interesting question. I think that people would be less cordial and gentlemanly nowadays and in the situation of "women and children first", things would get more hostile on a ship now than back then.

I guess I just didn't notice that. And I have seen this thing like a million times

No lie. A friend of mine said basically the same thing. That the boat would have warned up the water significantly. I like that answer.

derail warning:
the whole women and children thing really piss me off. I mean i'd let my wife and kids on the boat but it shouldn't be a free for all. Since men were the breadwinnners back then you should let them live and the women drown so they can still provide for their families. Not to mention the toll it would take on several companies having to replace dead employees.
sorry, women of the early 1900s, you'd drown on my boat.

I thought about the women and children thing a lot. A lot of big business pioneers/entrepreneur men had to have been killed in this. It was a hit to the economy and many families Left without bread winner husbands.

Perhaps the Titanic was the real reason behind the Great Depression. Hmmm.

The problem with women and children first is that the officers on the Titanic took the order too literally. Yes, women and children were to be allowed on the lifeboats first. But if there weren't any around, and only men were standing nearby, the officers were to let the men on the lifeboats. Instead most of the officers manning the boats thought that Captain Smith meant women and children only.

It's a shame how many boats went down half full. They could have saved hundreds of more lives. Unbelievable tragedy.

I went to the Titanic Exhibit in Vegas a few years back and it was very interesting to see the stuff that was brought back up to the surface. There was a doctor's leather medical bag that was practically untarnished. People's shoes, eye glasses, the fine china...so crazy that it was at the bottom of the ocean. At the beginning of the tour you pick a passenger card that has the name of a passenger, their age, occupation, and what class they were on the ship. At the end of the tour there was a wall with all passenger names on it you can check to see if you lived or died. Sadly, my passenger died. I did get a cool pic of me on the grand staircase though!

That's not really a valid comparision.

That sounds like something I would like to go to. I am somewhat fascinated by anything titanic related. I dvr'd and watched pretty much every special that ran this past weekend about the 100 year anniversary. Even watched the ABC miniseries that was on Saturday and Sunday.

what bothers me was that Rose spent one weekend slumming it with Leo on a big boat and she ends up with that guy in heaven. instead of her husband who spent decades with her.
but now looking back i begin to think that maybe the husband's version of heaven was to not be with Rose. maybe he's snorting blow off of strippers up there like he would've been on earth if that bitch had cashed in that necklace instead of sitting on it for years just to throw it into the ocean. I mean what the absolute frick, rose??!!

This site has "uncomfortable plot summaries". I couldn't help but laugh at titanic summary.
