ok so my first comment is that if i had to label that movie, it's a fantasy comedy. it wasn't scary at all. the whole "ancients" angle = fantasy and it (obviously) had a lot of funny moments and parody of horror movies (zenith was saw head, the send up to pinhead)

if i had to describe the movie in a single word it would be "fun" for sure. this was one of the most fun movies i've seen in theaters in a long, long time.

the trailers essentially ruined much of the surprises in this movie, so whatever. with the trailers and the opening scene i pretty much knew the whole plot. it was still fun to watch it unfold, though

you could tell when watching this movie that it was made by tv people. this was constructed like a really long episode of supernatural. this allowed the movie to work as a fantasy-comedy without getting campy. camp sucks and this movie avoided it. even with the layers of parody involved, camp was avoided. thank god

8.5/10

Kind of like- The Hunger Games (adult ver.) + Resident Evil + All Classic Horror Movies.
Damn the trailer! Would've been so much better for me, just took the steam out of the ending for me.

yeah once you realize the movie is really a fantasy movie about potential sacrifices rebelling against the faithful trying to sacrifice them, the reveal from the trailer really does affect the movie

when they were in the control room and the virgin was getting dominated by bubba badass, i was like..."are they going to revive the people or something, or just have him not be dead (since they didn't show it)?" and then i was like...whose blood did they use for his pictogram?

The trailer was a bit spoilery because it showed stuff that obviously went past the average horror story.

For me, I was pretty disappointed with the movie. The premise is absolutely ingenious, but at a certain point I felt like I was being tricked into watching the same old horror story again. Even though you knew that there were people makin sure all the horror story cliches appeared, it didn't make the characters any more interesting or the scares any more innovative

What the movie was ultimately missing was a sense of humor. It was a horror movie first and a comedy second. The scares relied too heavily upon pop out monsters

I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if someone like Edgar wgrite had written it. The movie sold out when they decided to use a random gas into changing characters feelings, and I was surprise when they made no effort at all to utilize or make any joke when sigourney weaver showe up

For me, 7/10.
Not a bad movie, it just could have been so so so much better.

Was everyone's favorite scene when all the monsters came out of the elevators? My jaw dropped at the awesomeness

i think she was more like the sawhead parody

ripley fought the company that used people and made them sacrifice for progress

in this movie, ripley was the "company" asking people to sacrifice for progress

i have to be honest. i was very dissapointed by this movie. not one person laughed the entire movie, including me. i thought the CGI was horrible and the movie didn't know what it wanted to be, horror or comedy. It's one of the top 5 worst movies i have ever seen. I usually agree with the critics, but this movie plain stunk!

if it wasn't horror, then what was it?

the premise sets it up as a parody, which is awesome when you think about it. But when i saw the movie the whole premise caved in on itself and delivered the same bland characters and plot line.

I understand the joke Whedon and Goddard are trying to get across. In the process, however, the audience still has to watch a crappy horror film for half the movie up until they get to the elevator.

Why didn't they change it up? There was a whole whiteboard of awesome monsters, yet they decided to go with the blandest one, the zombies.

IMO, the movie would have been awesome if the control room people were completely idiotic and didn't know what they were doing. At least that way the plot would have been different, funnier and stranger.

The movie was too tame and never tried to break through the cliche up until the end. Ultimately, we're watching the same thing. It's like bad reality television. We know its fake, so at least get some better writers.

I thought the movie was great, I really want to go see it again. The guys controlling everything were funny. All the men gathered around the screen to see some tits had everyone laughing. The ending wasn't great but it didn't take away from the film. The movie theater turned the lights on for the last couple of minutes of the movie so that kind of messed it up for me.

The guy from Dollhouse(Fran Kranz) was hilarious as Marty.

I lol'd when they said something like he was immune because of what he was smoking. Also the bong travel coffee mug, that had me rolling and the damn unicorn!

a fantasy-comedy with some horror parody as part of the comedy

the same plot line? people being manipulated into a horror setting to sacrifice for ancient deities is pretty novel

you had to wait a good bit in shaun of the dead to get to the zombie shite, too

plus, the whole "control room" angle gave a lot of perspective interjected into the initial "horror" plot

because they were setting up the elevator scenes with all of the monsters (and the mermen joke). if they started off with some amazing monster, the elevator scenes would have been a letdown

minimizing the impact of the antagonist kills any payoff. it's not difficult for a protagonist to defeat an inferior enemy

besides, the zombie monsters kind of played this role (which is another reason why they went with a weak monster initially)

it was the same plot line. even though people were controlling the plot, you still had to see all the awful horror cliches. the characters never made me laugh either.

maybe if the way they forced to cliches onto the characters was a bit more clever i would have enjoyed it. they sold out by just giving them gas to make them do a certain thing.

well yeah that's where a lot of the comedy/parody comes into play. you can't have that without the cliches
