There have always been pockets of people all over the state that have hated LSU for one reason or another. Some of those are fans of the smaller schools in the state, and that's fine, they need support as well. But some just hate LSU to be contrarians.
Before now, those people were the FSU, Miami, Ohio St, USC fans, and maybe a few other schools, but they were never united. Alabama has become a galvanizing force for the Anti-LSU crowd in-state. All those old Cane and Nole bumper stickers have been replaced by script A's.
It's not any new phenomenon for people in state to do that, what is new is that everyone is pulling in the same direction, and that direction is towards the arm pit of America.

Excellent point. Always band wagoners, but also actual fans of the team that wins display more. There was way more visible Saints support in BR in 2009 than I ever saw back when I was in school.
