Wire = greatest and most important work to come out of western culture in the last 30 years. Should have won Pulitzer or Nobel prize for literature.

After that, my next favorite is Deadwood.
Game of Thrones is incredible and you can get caught up on the first season in time to start the second season in April.
Boardwalk Empire is also a great one you could get caught up on relatively quickly.
Sopranos is pretty good too.
