I have only heard of one grander being released. Almost all are killed, the fight is so long an taxing on the fish they almost never survive. Plus a grander pretty much assures your name goes in the record book.

You all that would release would change your minds after a 16 hr fight. After that bitch kicks your arse for that long you're gonna want blood

Oh and most the time by the time a grander is leadered they are on the cusp of death, theyll fight to the death before giving in.

I caught an ~850ish marlin a few years back in Bermuda. it came to the boat floating upside down. we drug it for about 20 minutes trying to get water flowing over its gills, never got it kicking. We call them lawn darts when they come up like that and have no chance.
