quote:We need a primitive weapons squirrel season.
My favorite is the .25 cal which I use for squirrel hunting, it's a real kick to chase squirrels with it.
Honestly though that does sound fun.
quote:Why not do away with the primitive arms season and the youth hunts altogether. Why do kids need a special weekend? My young'n has bowhunted on youth weekend since he was 14. I hunt Area 2 and these two special interest weekends cut into half of MY early archery season.
So the point is everyone seems to love the primitive weapon season as an extension of firearm season, not the requirement to use a true muzzleloader. Why not just extend firearm season????
If it was up to me we would have bows only(crossbows for elderly and handicapped only) until Thanksgiving and then "no holds barred, anything goes" for the remainder of the season. But that wouldn't generate much interest for newcomers and would probably alienate a few of your "opening weekend warriors" as well.

I would rather see a true primitive season with modern replica flintlocks and percussions and no optics, or just an open sights only season where you could use anything.
I hate the way it is done now. Modern inlines with big optics just leave me cold.
