Always had good luck at the Grand Bayou cut (and back a ways) and the old jetties. The oyster reefs will produce at times, get yourself a good map of the lake and have fun.
If nothing else a bunch of gaff tops is fun to catch.

sounds like you just need bite the bullet to hire a guide. March can be tough due to the winds. Heard they closed off the wiers.
