what does this certification prove you can do? What is the "scope" of the certification...analysis, etc...?
I know what the CPA is for and is the Holy Grail of certs for accountants, but in Southern LA, i've never heard of the CMA certification before I researched it...
Why would on choose to go for the CMA vs the CPA?

CMA is a much more practical skill set for financial analysis, planning, and forecasting.
CPA basically has hoards of new B4 entrants each year required to get it, hence, there is a large market of CPAs each year.
CMA is through the IMA, which doesn't have the ability to market the designation as much as the CPA.
In short, CPA is more prestigious, but the CMA is more useful for your average financial analyst/CFO
