Some guys like to characterize Downton Abbey as a chick show, but I find it to be solid. The writing and acting are top notch and the characters very, very engaging.
Just found out the American PBS version was chopped up so that "Americans wouldn't get confused," or some stupid shite like that. I watched the unedited British versions on Netflix and TV recordings from usenet.

wife was doing a marathon of this show one sunday afternoon. at the beginning, i was reading a book. but, slowly over the course of the afternoon, the book was closed and i found myself watching the show. at one point, i got up for a bathroom break and, without even thinking, asked my wife to pause the show. there was an awkward pause where she stared at me like i was crazy...i said, "we shall never speak of this moment again" and scurried out of the room...
