Any recommendations on courses around Atlanta or one the way to Augusta that would be worth playing the Saturday and Sunday before Masters week?

Augusta National is open till the Monday before the Masters.
Don't you have an uncle who is a member? If not I could make a few calls.

All the local courses in Augusta jack up their rates the week of the Masters. If you have some pull the Augusta Country Club is very nice. It's been a little while but West Lake (private) and Jones Creek (semi-private) were nice in Columbia County (West augusta). I'm fond of Gordon Lakes (on Ft. Gordon) and Forest Hills. They are less expensive courses. Forest Hills isn't far... You can stop at the Village Deli (brewbachers like restaurant close by) afterwards and grab a Chicken Philly and a beer.

lanier islands is a nice place. If you are in the north area and looking for a very reasonably priced course, Royal lakes is a great course

I love that place, I actually worked there for a couple of weddings with two of my friends. There are 2 or 3 courses if I remember correctly, I have played two of them.
